Strangulation or Choking Is Not a Game
I was shocked to read the story from South Carolina where a 17 year old camp counselor has been arrested for teaching the "choking game" to two boys who passed out for several minutes! The counselor, Ronald Riley, was at a camp for children of deployed US soldiers.
The story reports that Riley put his hands acircular a boy's neck and choked him until he became unconscious. Riley was arrested at his high school several days later and charged with assault and unlawful conduct.
I have never heard of such a "game"! A little research revealed the "choking game" has killed 82 children from 1995 thcoarse 2007, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It appears the game is a fad among kids seeking the euphoric feeling that people get as blood rushes back into the brain after the choking ceases.
If you have not had a conversation with your children about this fatal game...NOW IS THE TIME!
